OKANOGAN , WASHINGTON
Okanogan is a beautiful, unspoiled, yet not so well known area of Washington State, part of the Inland Empire on the east side of the Cascade Mountains. The Pasayten Wilderness in Okanogan is one of America's wildest places, boasting the Iargest lynx population in the Lower 48 states. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this often overlooked part of our state. Life is slower here, and sometimes while driving Okanogan's highways you can't see a car behind you or in front of you, not something you would often experience where I live in Western Washington.
One of the most beautiful stretches of highway that I've encountered in all of my map journeys is the route between Loomis and Blackhawk, along Palmer Lake. If you're a motorcyclist like I am, you would love this scenic wilderness byway.
